Method
I work with hot glass in the traditional methods of hand blown glass, as well as the contemporary methods of casting glass. My cast pieces are sculptural, free poured images. They are assembled right after the cast parts are poured, without glues or adhesives.
My blown glass pieces, which is the bulk of my work, begins with two tanks of glass, one clear and the other color. The colored glass, the green, aqua, cobalt blue and amethyst are colors that I make and melt in my furnace. I also make and melt glass and usually work a tank of clear glass with a tank of colored glass. In that way I am able to create a lot more combinations of color.
My surface designs consist of glass, in the form of shards and threads, silver nitrate and fume, that I fuse into the molten glass before using a blow pipe to begin forming the piece. I work alone therefore every piece is individually made. My pieces are functional and lead free.
Statement
Glass is still fascinating to me after thirty years of experience. I attribute that to its ability to transform from sand to molten liquid to a hardened transparent form. I admire and respect its quick and unpredictable qualities and am still in awe of its brilliance, its luminescence and its fragility.
