Glass artist, Cheryl Collins, creates magic combining elements of nature with glass in an expressive art form that moves. Inspired by Mother Earth, Cheryl uses rocks, crystals and arrowheads in her work in a free-form style that is refreshing and unique.
“Instead of working from a pre-set pattern, I prefer to just let the glass speak to me. Sometimes it seems to take form effortlessly, creating a finished product with a feeling of past cultures.”
Each piece is a unique work of art masterfully handcrafted with care. Using a distinctive array of interesting texture and light capturing color she fires her stained and fused glass designs in a kiln.
“I’ve always loved the magic of glass… the crystals in the window created more than just prisms of light dancing on the walls. They gave a lift to the spirit, playfulness to the soul and a promise of beauty, hope and wonderment.”
Cheryl’s art pieces are known as “light catchers”. Artistic jewels for windows and walls reminding us to take moments to appreciate beauty and recapture our wonderment of youth. As a local artist, Cheryl receives inspiration and creative energy living in Kayenta.
“This desert is magical; an artist’s dream world. Just before the sun rises above the Red Mountain I watch the morning light roll down the mountains and across the valley. The rock formations in the 3,000 foot cliffs bring creativity to your bones as if ancient Indians were breathing secret energies from the earth’s backbone into your soul.”
Majoring in Art and Music at Brigham Young University, Cheryl enjoys painting, woodworking, carving, pottery, mosaic and creative writing. She teaches art classes at the Coyote Gulch Art Village in Kayenta, Utah as a way to give back to the community. |
