Christina Nielson is not afraid of color. "I have always been inspired and drawn to the brillance and texture of oil paint. My artistic path has been a somewhat winding one."
I drew for pure pleasure as a child. At age 12, my parents enrolled me at Stewart Junior High School, and experimental school at the University of Utah campus. I signedup for a tempera painting class where I met my late friend and mentor, Frank Erickson. Frank had been a medical illustrator and was working on his Ph.D. in art at the University. He was also a prolific oil painter of the Utah wilderness. Many of Utah's finest artist took instruction from Frank. He studied at the University with the late LeConte Stewart, his mentor, and the late Alvin Gittins. I met Frank in my early 20's and was privileged to paint with him for 20 years.
In the 1980's, I completed a degree in sociology, psychology and a master's in social work at the University of Utah. I was able to study art at the "U" and spent a semester in Normandy and Paris studying art and the French language.
Recently, along with my oil painting, I have worked in patels and watercolors, taking workshops whenever possible. I am a member of the American Academy of Women Artists and a member of the Utah Watercolor Society.
