I try to always personify the natural world. The viewer should feel something about the personality, and character of my trees, reeds, water, rocks, and skies.
When I paint a sky, I want the viewer to feel its mood and breeze, or maybe its heat. Hopefully, the viewer feels the weight of my rocks and boulders. The height of a sheer drop-off should make one dizzy. The shade of trees should make viewers want to step into it.
Paintings are like having a litter of puppies. You love, and are irritated by the presence of, each one. Yet ultimately, always find the perfect home for each one.
I grew up in a household where art was practiced every day. My mother is an oil painter, and my father is a woodworking craftsman. As children, we were given woodworking tools, and paints to occupy our time.
I began my artistic pursuit by taking up sculpture, and then with the help of my talented mother and aunts, began to paint. Painting has been a great addition to my life. It has helped me to really see the world. I sincerely hope that the viewer enjoys my paintings as much as I enjoy creating them.
