John was raised in Utah where he learned much about painting from his sister Chris and his father Gary, who are both artists. In 1981 he received an art scholarship award to attend the University of Utah where he studied fine art and design. John enjoyed his experience at the university where he was able to expand and develop his interests in painting, printing, design and illustration. John enjoys working in many different mediums (watercolor, oil & acrylic) and likes to paint a variety of subject matter in many different styles (traditional, contemporary and experimental.) John has collaborated with his father and sister on mural projects in Seattle, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Miami. His active lifestyle and love of the outdoors is reflected in his pleine aire paintings. He can be found teaching watercolor classes on river trips along the Colorado. John is one of the finest young landscape painters in the intermountain west.
John has had several art shows over the past few years – solo as well as group or family shows (Kimball Art Center, Eccles Art Center, Gallery of the Pacific on the big Island) and has worked on several large commissioned mural art projects.
