The process of creating sculpture from various metals and found objects intrigues me. My primary material being steel. My satisfaction comes from creating an object that seems to take on a life or presence of it’s own.
My sculptures are constructed by “Direct Metal Technique” which involves cutting and shaping individual pieces of metal then welding them together. I use traditional metal fabricating equipment such as welding machines, plasma cutter, oxy/acetylene torch, various grinding tools, blacksmiths forge and hand tools to create my one of a kind sculptures.
I have focused on two distinct styles of sculpture, whimsical and contemporary. Found objects such as gears, car parts, and industrial components are welded together to create my whimsical characters. Steel, copper and stone are used to create my contemporary totems, furniture and other objects.
Creating objects of beauty is not my goal as an artist. Beauty is intended to please the senses with an immediate response. My intent is power of expression, which is deeper than the senses, contemplative, even spiritual. |
