Nicky Falkenhayn is a sculptor and jeweler living in Portland OR. She spent the first half of her adult live as a PE- and Sports instructor traveling 3 times around the world. Settled in Portland in 1990 art became the focus of her work. Classes at OCAC (Oregon Collage of Art and Craft) and PNCA (Pacific NW Collage of Art) put her on the way to become a fiber artist. After the birth of her son she changed to jewelry and sculpture. Her work often combines fine knitted metal wire with heavy welded steel structures.
Artist Statement
Lightweight, original and comfortable is what I want my jewelry to be. Knitted and crocheted 22K gold and fine silver wire is the base of my designs, which are inspired by European jewelry since I grew up in Switzerland.
CLEANING & CARE INSTRUCTIONS
-For cleaning I recommend a liquid silver cleaner. It is important to only dip the jewelry a second and rinse very well immediately. Air dry.
-Tube necklaces are hollow, seatbelts, dropping or stepping on them can flatten the tube. It can be pushed out somewhat with a knitting needle or small pen.
-The tube clasp should always be pulled or closed on the little “cap” of the clasp, not on the knitted silver or gold.
