David was raised in Cache Valley, Utah. He started creating artwork as a child and is still doing so as a grandfather.
While attending Arizona State University he fell in love with the colors and shapes of the desert. Since then he has been painting impressions of Arizona and Utah places. He has developed a spontaneous and unique technique using the brilliant colors of the desert. Of the desert landscape David comments, “On the desert you can see any shape and any color.”
David studied painting at Utah State University, Arizona State University, and Miami of Ohio.
The paintings of David Rhodes are a unique blend of brilliant natural colors and dramatic depictions of the desert landscape as it is shaped by water and wind.
Describing his work David states, “My art reflects an appreciation of the natural erosion, randomness and symmetry, myriad of colors, unlimited shapes, openness and confinement, plainness and complex beauty of places in the West. I strive to emulate the spirit of a place by definition of space and suggestion of in progress change, rather than drafting exact detail.”
Owners of David’s work usually express a connection the work makes with them and their feelings towards the red rock country or the expanse of the desert. The colors in his paintings are the most appreciated element of those who purchase David’s art. |
