Richard Langley began his apprenticeship in glass with Michelle Kaptur and Jesse Bach in Bend, Oregon. During 1997 to 2000, Richard furthered his studies attending various classes at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington. Moving to Montana in 2001, Richard built Cloud Cap Glass Studio and has been running and maintaining it since its’ opening in June of 2001. Richard has also taught various beginning and intermediate classes in glass.
Cloud Cap Glass Studio was opened in 2001, the studio has grown into a small school and production shop. Through classes, an open studio policy and quarterly events; it has introduced the wonder of working with hot glass to hundreds of residents in the region. Cloud Cap has a small group of “regulars” who were inspired by taking classes. They now volunteer by assisting and also rent studio time to make their own work. The main objective of the owners of Cloud Cap Glass is the advancement of glassblowing technique and the refinement of design in glass. “Keep it hot, keep it flowing. Blowing glass is more than a way to make a living. It is a way of life.”
