Lyman Whitaker has been a practicing sculptor for over 40 years, with a unique knowledge of materials and their application. The past 13 years have primarily been focused on creating wind sculptures, each of which is produced by hand. Because the Wind Sculptures are innovative and artistic and have a high degree of mechanical integrity, they are well respected for quality craftsmanship.
Lyman graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Utah. There he studied under Advard Fairbanks and Angelo Carvaglia, learning classical sculpture techniques as well as contemporary design. Lyman resides with his wife Stacy, and their two children in Southwest Utah. He loves the desert's solitude and the intensity of the climate.
The receptivity to his work has allowed Lyman to create a wonderful studio where he works with both Stacy and his brother, John Whitaker. Together over time they have created a productive art network.
Lyman's sculptures have an organic and mystical theme, as does his current philosophy. Concerned about the sustainability of our culture's present systems, Lyman's fondest dream is to have his artwork symbolize a move toward better solutions in our relationship with the environment. |
